Endodontics
Endodontics is the treatment of the pulp of the tooth. The pulp can still be vital (alive) or can be non-vital (dead). If a tooth is fractured (such as both pictures below) it requires the services of a veterinary dentist for the tooth to be saved. Some fractured or dead teeth can be brown, purple or have brown tips. Your veterinary dentist will assist you with the appropriate treatment for that tooth.

Although alternative treatment options are available, root canal therapy is commonly recommended for fractured or dead teeth. When root canal therapy is performed, the dead pulp is removed, the inside of the tooth is cleansed and shaped, the tooth is filled with an inert substance and a restoration is placed. Root canal therapy has a high success rate of nearly 96% if performed correctly. The upper fourth premolar below has had a root canal performed.
