Our Story

In the 1970's Dr. Robert Taylor was convinced that the only practical way to provide advanced veterinary medicine was to offer primary care, specialist care, and 24-hour emergency care all under one roof. This model for raising the bar on veterinary care was at once pioneering and visionary. It is the primary tenet upon which VCA Alameda East Veterinary Hospital practices some of the most sophisticated veterinary medicine in the world today.

Our doors have been open 24/7 for more than 30 years. Why 24 hours and why so many services under one roof? We treat pets as members of the family. We want to know every detail about your pet so that we can provide the best possible care to suit their needs from their days as a little tyke to providing the best quality of life in their senior years. That means we see about everything. We know what to do in an emergency, who to consult in complex cases, and what to look for in an initial wellness exam.

Our doctors and veterinary technicians are encouraged to continue their education, obtain certifications, and publish their work. Our self-effacing team members aren't likely to divulge their contributions to texts, research, ground-breaking work, international lecturing, or multiple certifications.

Since 2003 we've added 32,000 square feet of state-of-the-science everything. New equipment, new technology: all in a proper facility that promotes teamwork in the name of your pet.
